A. — [Pour appeler, interpeller; ce que demande le locuteur n'est pas spécifié] Hep! taxi! Hep! sergent! On avait marché, lui semblait-il, à l'intérieur du réduit et l'on y marchait encore. « Hep! Hep! » Pas de réplique. Il cogna plus fort, avec ses poings d'abord, avec ses pieds ensuite (CLADEL, Ompdrailles, 1879, p. 350). — Oh, Monsieur David! Monsieur David! Elle éclata en sanglots, se sauva vers le couloir, s'enfuit. — Hé là, hep! Annie, Annie! Fichue petite rosse! Fichu animal! (VAN DER MEERSCH, Invas. 14, 1935, p. 304).
— Emploi subst. masc. Elle s'animait à son discours puis cinglait son cheval d'un « hep » vigoureux qui le lançait à travers bois (A. DAUDET, Rois en exil, 1879, p. 130). À quel moment faut-il que je lance le « hep! » qui coupe brutalement l'élan? (COLETTE, Mais. Cl., 1922, p. 270).
